FAU Mosaic – Community of PoC
Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg is an open and internationally oriented institution that, in accordance with its mission statement and the core values of innovation, diversity and passion, wants to promote and support the empowerment and visibility of employees who belong to underrepresented groups. As part of its diversity strategy, it works specifically to reduce all forms of discrimination. The new FAU Network Mosaic – Community of PoC1 would like to make a contribution to this and establish a culturally and ethnically diverse community that brings together all FAU employees who are affected by racism in the context of their university activities and in everyday life, and create a safer space.
Monthly, informal meetings are planned where we can exchange our experiences, get to know and empower each other. Anyone who would like to join the network can sign up to our mailing list. Information about our meetings will be shared there, as well as here on our website.
Questions can be directed at Harriet Ziegler (harriet.ziegler@fau.de) or Noran Omran (noran.omran@fau.de).
1 PoC is an abbreviation for Person of Color/People of Color, which are self-designated terms for people who experience racism.

The Launch Event
We celebrated the founding of the FAU Mosaic network with a big launch event to which we cordially invited everyone who was interested. In addition to a greeting from the Vice President People, Prof. Dr. Andreas Hirsch, and a welcome from the network’s co-initiator, Noran Omran, we enjoyed a lecture by the renowned neuroscientist and racism expert Dr. Emily Ngubia Kessé (Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg) on the topic:
„THE MODERN NEOLIBERAL UNIVERSITY: What’s racism got to do with it?“
At the subsequent reception there was plenty of opportunity for networking and lively exchange. You can find further information in the article about the launch.
