Office of Equality and Diversity

The Office of Equality and Diversity is the central port of call at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) for everything to do with equality of opportunity. To encourage equality of opportunity, FAU implements strategies aimed at ensuring compatibility between studying, working and having a family as well as gender mainstreaming and diversity management strategies.

Gender mainstreaming and diversity management are covered by the Office of Equality and Diversity, and information is provided in our gender and diversity portals. The Office also supports the women’s representatives in fulfilling their tasks. Our brochure gives an overview of the areas we work in, and highlights some of the projects and services offered by the Office of Equality and Diversity.


For Pride Month and with the increasingly warm weather, we are throwing a summer party as our June meeting, to which we hereby cordially invite all employees: those who identify as queer and also all those who, as allies, want to support their queer colleagues at FAU in solidarity and celebrate queerness together!

Dr. Claudia Major, Head of the International Security Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin, will be giving a lecture (in German) on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 6pm in the Wassersaal in the Orangerie, Wasserturmstr. 3, 91054 Erlangen on the topic "Turning point(s): Germany and Europe in global competition - Where are we today? What can and needs to be done? How can peace be restored in Europe?"

Were you the first in your family to start studying? Did you know that, as so-called first-time academics, you go through a career path that is unfortunately still not a given? Have you ever experienced exclusion or rejection due to your social background during your career and felt like you didn't belong as a result? You are far from alone in this, as many so-called first-time academics know these experiences and questions precisely!

As part of its diversity strategy, FAU works specifically to reduce all forms of discrimination. The new employee network MosaicFAU – Community of PoC would like to make a contribution to this and establish a culturally and ethnically diverse community that brings together all FAU employees who are affected by racism in the context of their university activities and in everyday life, and create a safer space.
