Target agreements 2023-2027

Fourth target agreement round 2023-2027 signed

FAU stands for innovation, diversity and passion. Equal opportunities are one of our guiding principles, encompassing gender equality, prevention of discrimination and family friendliness.

One of main components towards encouraging equal opportunities for women and men is funding specifically dedicated to encouraging young female researchers at all five faculties, which is a prerequisite for remaining competitive on an international stage.

Since 2005, the main mechanism for encouraging women at FAU have been the target agreements for increasing the proportion of women in academia concluded between the Executive Board and the five faculties. These target agreements are based on the structural and personnel equality standards of the DFG, statistics from the faculties and departments and a cascade model.

The fourth target agreement round 2023–2027 has been in force since January 1, 2023. The included strategic measures have been designed to make a considerable and sustainable contribution towards increasing the representation of women in academia. The measures follow a three-pronged approach: providing tailored career support for young female researchers, placing a greater emphasis on gender mainstreaming in all planning, decision-making and recruitment processes and encouraging a move towards a gender-sensitive organizational and academic culture sensitive to the needs of families.
